ZAMBIA: Siankaba Island and Sindabizi Island

Siankaba Island, Zambia is a classic, small, isolated island in the middle of the mighty Zambezi River near the Siansimba Rapids. It is located 24 miles upstream from the internationally renowned 'Victoria Falls' and just 30 miles from the magnificent Chobe National Park. The real charm of the place is in its solitude and location with large overhanging trees sheltering the island.

Farther down river and closer to Livingstone is SINDABIZI ISLAND, a quiet oasis of calm in the middle of Africa's "river of life". The ideal location gives visitors a sense of remoteness while maintaining easy access to the activities in Livingstone.

Visitors to either island can experience the sereneness of these two, very different, and very beautiful islands while canoeing downriver and watching the elephants and hippos up close. Throw in your line and try your luck at tiger fishing or visit the nearby game park to view Zambia's last rhinos. From Sindabezi Island, it is possible to stop for a gourmet lunch on Livingstone Island near the world's largest waterfall and feel the power of "the smoke that thunders".

THE BEST MONTH TO VISIT SIANKABA OR SINDABEZI ISLAND is September when the elephants flock to the banks of the Zambezi to cool off in its waters. The hot, dry weather is perfect for a relaxing canoe on the refreshing waters of the "river of life."
