Uganda: What to Expect / Highlights

The Source of the Nile River

This is one of Uganda's main tourist attractions.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest

A proclaimed World Heritage site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. Its unique, precious flora sustains roughly half of the world's population of mountain gorillas - believed to number just 600. There is also a substantial chimpanzee population and Bwindi is the only forest in Africa in which these two apes live together. Visiting these gorillas is one of the most emotional wildlife encounters you will ever experience.

Great African Rift Valley

A 6,000-mile crack in the earth's crust formed by violent subterranean forces caused huge chunks of the crust to sink between parallel fault lines and force up molten rock in volcanic eruptions. In this valley one finds beautiful plains, lake and river systems as well as incredible wildlife.

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest National Park and shelters many primate species, including chimpanzees, while the river attracts various antelopes, buffalos, Rothschild-giraffes and elephants. The world-famous Murchison Falls are a must for any visitor.

Kaleidoscope of African Wildlife Habitats

Uganda supports one of the most diverse array of flora and fauna on the continent.

TIME TO GO:

The best time to visit Uganda is late December to late February, as the weather at this time of year is generally dry (though hot). A close second is the June to September period. Not considered a good idea to go trekking outside of these dry months.
