MAURITIUS

Mauritius will enchant you, it will uplift your soul and make you feel that you belong to the chosen few - but only if you have a big travel budget!  It is the most accessible island in the Indian Ocean, easily accessed after a safari to southern Africa. Boasting a tropical paradise and the most elegant accommodation found anywhere in the tropics, you live the life of luxury in Mauritius.

Though nestled up alongside Africa, it's actually more influenced by its British and French connections and its massive Indian workforce. The island, set in a turquoise sea, is an oasis of peace and tranquility. Mauritius is a melting pot where past and present are smoothly blended together offering an essential beauty that will remain in the conscience.

One of the most spectacular sights in Mauritius is the awe-inspiring Tamarin falls. Tamarin is awkward to reach, but it's worth the effort for a beautiful, deep, cool bath at the bottom of a series of seven spectacular waterfalls. The rare black dolphin and long beaked dolphin can be seen in the waters of Tamarin bay near the famed falls. A visit to the volcanic lake and Hindu temple which is home to hundreds of macaque monkeys is also interesting.

THE BEST MONTH TO VISIT MAURITIUS is May when the weather is temperate and there is a distinct lack of European tourists..it can be very crowded at other times of the year. The weather in May is cooling down from the hot summer months and the rains are subsiding. Humidity levels are lower in May than in the early months of the year, and the cyclone season has not swung into full force as it does in late June through October.

THE HIDDEN GEM of Mauritius is Le Prince Maurice, where the smell of the warm sea mixes with the aroma of spices and the service, food and gorgeous private villas make you feel like royalty.

A GOOD VALUE is the Paradise Cove resort where modern comfort blends harmoniously with a decor of precious wood, shimmering silks and vibrant colors. This is one of the few reasonably priced hotels on the island that offers some ambiance and isn't too crowded. A beautiful beach resort, Paradise Cove is the perfect place to relax after an exciting African safari.
