Susan Burns

susan-burnsSusan Burns has been photographing horses as a passionate hobby for over 16 years. She is a graduate of the Art Institute in Chicago and the Students’ Art League in New York City but is largely self-taught, having traveled the world capturing images of horses, African wildlife and indigenous cultures.

Her latest venture is a partnership with acclaimed photographer and workshop teacher, Bobbie Goodrich (see below). Their new company, THE WEST, REDEFINED… leads photo/post-production tours to exclusive ranches in the West, exciting international destinations like Zambia and the Camargue, and their beautiful “Out of Santa Fe” studios in Santa Fe, NM.

Susan’s other passion is Africa, particularly Zambia, where she has traveled extensively as a Board Member of Direct Impact Africa, a private foundation whose goal is to help fund and create community-run cooperatives and models for sustainable enterprises. MORE DETAILS ON DIRECT IMPACT AFRICA (SEE ZAMBIA)

Her work has been recognized through various publications like Photographer’s Forum, Equine Photographer Network and the prestigious Spider Awards, but it is largely through private commission assignments where her work is displayed. Those include the Four Seasons Hotels, Explore Africa and archival work on exclusive private ranches throughout the West.

Matthew Copham

matt cophamBorn in South Africa in 1977, Matthew Copham developed a great interest in nature and wildlife from a young age. He completed his first game ranger course at the age of sixteen and spent his school holidays volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center near The Kruger National Park. Having successfully completed a diploma in game ranging and lodge management, Matthew joined the eco-tourism industry. At the age of nineteen, he was employed full time as a guide in the Greater Kruger National Park, moving between the Manyeleti, Sabi Sands and Thornybush game reserves. It is here that Matt believes he gained the most invaluable experience for his future as a professional guide and wildlife photographer.

Matthew was first published as a photographer in 1997, and has subsequently continued his passion for wildlife photography throughout his career. Matthew now uses his photography for raising money for specific funds such as Botswana's Rhino re-introduction program, Children in the Wilderness and Elephants without borders. Matthew is also involved with the funding of numerous research projects in Botswana, allowing him access to many of Botswana Wilderness areas.

Having built up a significant safari following, Matt now travels further afield to Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He brings a distinct enthusiasm and a great deal of experience to each tour and makes each guests' private tour a unique and life-changing event.

Bobbie Goodrich

bg-bioFor Bobbie Goodrich, photography began as a reference point for her needs as an oil painter. Finding immense satisfaction behind the lens, she jumped into the digital arena in its infancy. Slowly, she began developing her own innovative techniques in the digital darkroom using photoshop and her latest, favorite tool from her artist's bag, NIK Software. Her stunning images gained international recognition and the attention of NIK software where she is now a team member.

Her limited edition works have been honored in several museum exhibitions, including the 2012 "Cowgirl With a Camera" and 2007 "Cowgirl Up" at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, AZ. Her work was included in an invitational fundraising effort for the Phoenix Art Museum's newest contemporary wing. She is represented by the Zuva Gallery in Scottsdale, Bentley Publishing, and Rosenstiel Fine Art Editions in the UK. Bobbie has received numerous awards in competitions sponsored by Adobe, Canon, Cowboys & Indians magazine and grand prize winner in the 2008 Photographers Forum magazine annual competition where her image "Mud Bath" was chosen for the cover of "Best of photography 2008".

Bobbie co-founded with Susan Burns "The West Redefined photographic workshops" based in Santa Fe, NM.  Each workshop/tour includes post production where Bobbie shares her unique techniques for producing award winning fine art imagery from raw capture to final print.
